I love math, and I love to teach it.
Hello, Briley,
Please recall the following: factor x factor=Product.
Let me give you some examples like yours: 2x= 2 times x 2x is not a factor. It's made up of two factors being multiplied together. This sounds like the definition for a product. We don't know what the product is. However, suppose I let x=3. Then 2(3)=6. We now know a possible product.
10x means 10 times x. 10 is a factor and x is a factor Two factors are being multiplied together. Do we know the product? No What if I substituted a value for "x"? Let x=5 Then 10*5=50. The product becomes known.
I hope this discussion helps you to do your problem. Susan C.
