Hooo, I can see a few different options to make a distributive expression here. The most simplistic would be to factor out a k:
k(1/2 + 1/4)
Of course, if we want, we could also factor out a 1/2 (we multiply whats in the parentheses by 2 to counter/equalize against the 1/2:
1/2 k(1 + 1/2)
But then, that whole number and that fraction combo looks awkward, so we could factor out another 1/2:
1/4 k(2 + 1)
So as you can see, you have a handful of options on how to factor out the expression.
