Hi,
When I am estimating square roots I start by narrowing down which whole numbers, when squared, it is between. For example:
9² = 81
10² = 100
This tells me it is between 9 and 10 but definitely closer to 10. From there I try squaring with one decimal closer.
9.5² = 90.25
9.7² = 94.09
9.8²= 96.04
This tells me it is 9.7??? You don´t to go over.
As for 189 I know that
13² = 169
14² = 196
This means that it is 13. something. I can guess and check from there.
Hope that helps.
