I don't understad how to use the distributI've property here. Can you show me how to?

the "some number" needs to be -8, so that when you subtract the -8, it's the same as adding positive 8.

SO, it becomes 14 - (6 + -14) = 22, or:

 

                       14 - -8 = 22, or

                        14 + 8 = 22

 

if you're solving for the value of x, you can see in the equation that where x used to be is now the -14.  x = -14

What I'm trying to show is the negative sign can mean multiply the inside of the parentheses by -1 or it can mean subtract the inside of the parentheses.
