Of 90 students surveyed, 58 like pizza, 44 like sushi, and 35 like both. How many students like at least one of the two?

 

I came up with the answer 67. Is this correct? If not, what is the answer? I'm lost!

58 + 44 is the number of students who like only pizza, only sushi, both pizza and sushi, and both sushi and pizza.

 

You can see that the students who like both are counted twice.

 

So the answer is 58 + 44 - 35 = 102 - 35 = 67

Yes. Because you have 35 who like both, then you have 35 to start with. Of the 58 who like pizza, 35 of them like both, so you have 23 left who just like pizza.  Of the 44 who like sushi, 35 like both, so 9 are left who only like sushi.

 

35+23+9=67
