Express f in standard form - precalculus question

I'm having a lot of difficulty with this problem because I can't find out how to write it in standard form because I don't know how to complete the square. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A quadratic function f is given.

f(x) = 3x2 + 2x − 2

(a) Express f in standard form.
(b) Find the vertex and x- and y-intercepts of f. (If an answer does not exist, enter DNE.)

Hi Kenneth,

When I do this, I'm getting the answer 3(x+3/4)^2 - 59/16, but it's saying that it's not right. Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you,

Layla

I see that I made a COLOSSAL mistake; when I factored out the 3 from right side, that would make the coefficient of x, within parentheses, two thirds, not three halves).

So final answer is y = 3(x + 1/3)2 - 7/3.

Very sorry I left out a good finishing sentence: CHECK THE WORK!
