Verizon has a basic plan for $33.99. You get 400 minutes. The overage charge is 45 cents per minute. Sprint offers the same plan for $36.99 with an overage of 40 cents per minute.

How many minutes would you have to go over for the plans to cost the same amount?

33.99+0.45x=36.99+0.40x

 

0.05x=3

 

    x= 3/0.05

     

       = 60

So finally 60 minutes

the difference in charge per minute beyond the basic plan of 400 minutes is 5 cents

 

It would take $3.00 / .05/min = 60 minutes to make up the difference in basic cost.
