I must determine the value of x in the following matrix

Question

determine the value of x, x>0 if

│2  5  │
│        │ = 3x
│x  x² │

I do get it that it would be 2x² - 5x

but don't know how to get to what the value of x is

This "value" is called the determinant. You correctly expressed its value; you have an equation, so the determinant value = 3x.

 

Therefore you have a quadratic equations, andyou should solve it for x by standard methods.
