Problem With Factors & Multiples

Question

A bakery received an order for 7 similar cakes. The customer requested that the cakes be cut and packed equally in 12 similar small boxes with each box containing two slices of cake. How do you help the baker solve the problem?

Answer 1

You could cut each cake into 12 pieces.

Yet that would put 7 slices in each box, not 2 as requested.

 

The problem lies with 7 and 12 not having a common factor.
