Question

Ali invested his savings in two investment funds. The 2000
that he invested in Fund A returned a 1%
profit. The amount that he invested in Fund B returned a 6%
profit. How much did he invest in Fund B, if both funds together returned a 4%
profit?

both funds together returned a 4% profit

total profit = 4% of 2000 = 0.04 *2000=80

 

Amount invested in Fund A = x

so returned on investment on Fund A = x*1% =x*0.01 =0.01x

 

Amount that he invested in Fund B =2000-x

so return on investment on Fund B=(2000-x)*6%=(2000-x)*0.06=120 -0.06x

so

0.01x +120-0.06x =80

-0.05x =-40

x = 800

 

Amount invested in Fund A = x =$800

Amount invested in Fund B= 2000 -x =2000-800=$1200
