f(x) is the name of the function, and "x" is a number that can be anything. However, when we write something like f(-1), that means that every time we see an "x" in f(x), we will replace the "x" with -1.
f(-1) = 3(2)^(-1)
Note: Negative exponents mean that we will move the number to the opposite side of the fraction. Ex. 2^(-1) = 1/2, 1/(2^(-1)) = 2.
f(-1) = 3 * 1/2
f(-1) = 3/2
