Is creative writting studies difficult?

Hi everyone! In the following Octomber I am starting a creative writing course at the university of Birckbeck in London. I am realy excited about that but at the same time I strugle with depression and anxiety and as a result I am worried that this is going to affect my studies and lead me to failure...Did anyone else had the same problem when he was studing? Is creative writing course difficult? Please answer to me!!!

Hi Violet, I know this was asked quite a while back. I hope my answer finds you well. First things first congratulations are in order. Starting anything new and being excited about it is wonderful and especially healthy for you mind and mood, in my opinion. Depression is a serious thing to deal with. I understand your worries. I have to say that worry, simply put, is caring. While I am not in any way qualified to answer you in a medical sense (just a disclaimer) I am qualified as a human being who has dealt with much in my own life. 'That being said, Creative writing can be some of the best therapy! Not only do I think you can take the course and succeed, I base this on your enthusiasm, but I also think it could do you much more good than you know. The thing to remember is the "creative" part. A good creative writing course or teacher will give you the tools and teach techniques. they are meant to help you to portray in your writing what your feeling inside. Sometimes what your feeling and want to write is happy and wonderful, it can be scary and dark as well. Part of the tools that the teacher might give you would be prompts in which you can use to practice the techniques. I personally enjoy prompt writing because I get what is called writers block quite often, but I still have the urge to write. It allows you to think about things and write about things that you might not do on your own, which in turn unlocks much more creativity within you. I apologize for any of the extra fluff in my answer I will in short say this. Anything can be difficult, especially given extra difficulties you might have on your own, but it is far from impossible and I think that your excitement about it is what's going to get you through it. And I think that it's going to make you feel better having done it. I would love to know if this reaches you and how your course turned out and how you were doing. your friend, Jessica
