How to solve 842 = 500(1.11)^x

842 = 500(1.11)^x

 

I can't remember how to solver power x.

842/500=(1.11)^X

log9842/500)=xlog1.11

log 1.6484=xlog1.11

log1.6484/log1.11=x

.208/.0453=x

4.59=x

If the problem is exponential, you will probably need to use log to find a solution.

Divide both sides by 500

842/500 = 1.11^x

 

take the log of each side

log (842/500) = log 1.11^x

The log of a power moves x to a constant

log (842/500) = x log 1.11

You should be able to solve the rest.

The inverse of an exponential is a log, so you'll have to use logs to get the x out of the exponent.

 

842 = 500(1.11)^x

842/500 = (1.11)^x

1.684 = (1.11)^x

log(1.684) = xlog(1.11)     [Log Property: log(a^x) = xlog(a)]

log(1.684)/log(1.11) = x

 

Use your calculator to compute the values of the logs.  You can use any base log.
