2. that height (altitude) creates two right triangles; label the hypotenuses y and their legs 5.

3. y² = 5² + x²

4. 2y + 10 = 3x

 

5. solve equation in (4) for y

6. substitute from (5) into equation in (3).  

7. solve the new (quadratic) equation for x.

8. check the answer.
