You clue is the topic - square roots.  Let x be the number we are trying to find.  Multiplying x by itself (x*x = x2) gives 992.88:
 
x2 = 992.88
 
Solve for x by taking the square root of both sides.

Oh, I see you're supposed to use the long division method to find the square root.  It is very hard to show the long division method using the simple editor on this website.  Perhaps another tutor is willing to try.  You can also watch a youtube video such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5lNEia4zVs
