I love math, and I love to teach it.
Hi, Ashley,
b=minimum furnace output a=2300 ft2=area of a house b=33 times (area)
Suppose you had a smaller house of 1, 200 sq. ft, you would solve with substitution: b= 33(1,200.)=39,600 BTU's
Now do a= 2300 and multiply, and you are done. The answer is in BTU's, which is a standard measurement for heat output.
I hope that this helps. Susan C.
