Separate the compound equation into two separate equations. That is,
2x - y = -2 and 4x - y = -2. Then it would probably be easiest to write each in slope-intercept form:
y = 2x + 2 and y = 4x + 2
The first equation has a y-intercept of 2, with a slope of m = 2 = +2/+1(up two, right 1) = -2/-1 (down two, left 1)
The second equation has a y-intercept also of 2,
but with a slope of m = 4 = +4/+1 (up four, right 1) = -4/-1(down four, left one).
The point of intersection will be the y-intercept for this problem.
