I love math, and I love to teach it.
Hello, Daisy,
Function notation means that you write an equation with f(x) f of x, instead of "y." For example,
4x + 2y =16 First, solve for "y." Get rid of 4x from both sides of equation:
4x—4x +2y= -4x +16 2y=-4+16
Find "y" by dividing every term by the number next to "y." 2y/2 = -4/2 (x) +16/2
Simplify: y= -2x +8 Now write with functional notation: f(x)= -2x + 8
Just do your example using the steps that I have shown you, and you will have the answer.
I hope that I have helped. Susan C.
