Just expand, combine like terms and simplify.
 
    6(3-(-5x-8))  = 240X+402
    6(3+5x+8)    = 240X+402
    18+30X+48   = 240X+402
          30X+66   = 240X+402
      - 240X- 66     -240X - 66 
 
       -210X         =          336
 
                  X    =  -16
