Three energy saving improvements are advertised to save 25%, 55% and 20%. A homeowner makes these three improvements in succession. What overall percentabe saving can be expected

Take off 25% and you have 75%, so you end up with 80% of 45% of 75% of the original.

 

0.8(0.45)(0.75) = 0.27 = 27%

 

100 - 27 = 73% savings

 

You may have learned to subtract 1 - 0.27, which is the same thing as 100% - 27%.
