Difference between old and new customers

Hi,

 

In a shop,  140 visitors visited on Sunday, including old and new visitors.

Statistics shows that for 5 new visitors there were 3 old visitors (ratio 5:3). What was the difference between new and old visitors on sunday ?

If the ratio is 5:3 then 5/8 were new visitors and 3/8 were old visitors

New:  (5/8)(140) = 87.5

 

Old:  (3/8)(140) = 52.5

 

We are not 100% certain it it was 88 new, 52 old or 87 new and 53 old.

 

So the difference is either 88-52=36 or 87-53=34
