Let's say that the original length of the board is B.
We started out with a whole length of B, then we subtracted 2/9ths of that to give us 4.69m
B - (2/9)×B = 4.69
(9/9)×B - (2/9)×B = 4.69
((9-2)/9)×B = 4.69 , we can just subtract the tops of the fractions because the bottoms are the same
(7/9)×B = 4.69
B = 4.69÷(7/9)
B = 4.69×(9/7) , dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by that fraction flipped around
B = 4.69×9/7 , follow Order of Operations (PEMDAS)
B = 42.21/7
B = 6.03 m

Maybe I am, Ryan. It's hard to figure out what part of a problem someone doesn't understand without talking to them face-to-face. So I like to be as thorough as possible. I enjoy writing it out as long as the students find it helpful.

4.69/7= 0.67 which is 1:9
.67 * 9 = 6.03
some people are just too smart for their own good. :)
