Thin Lens Equation

Question

I was hoping someone could give me an example with answer and reasoning using the Thin Lens Equation.

 

The one we used in our lab was 1/f = 1/s + 1/s'.

 

I was hoping all terms could be defined (s, s', s_A, s_B, s_'B ect) Virtual vs real image and the characteristics of converging and diverging lens.

 

 A problem like this will be on the final and I was hoping to have an example with a possible diagram or picture to go with !

To explain this equation you need to understand sign conventions used differently in different books The equations used are also different by different authors Some use 1/v + 1u = 1/f for mirrors and 1/v -1/u =1/f for lenses +ve focal length for convex lens and -ve for concave Reverse is used for mirrors Then magnification sign convension needs to be understood as per use by different authors All this will take time to explain based on what conversion and symbols are followed by you I can explain all this in one hour lesson Rest assured no fee will be charged as teaching is my passion
