If I have an 82% in geometry and the eoc is worth 30% of my grade, and I fail it with a 40%, how much will that drop my final grade?

Passing the geometry EOC isn't currently a requirement but it counts for 30% of my grade. I'm not good at math and I would like to know how much failing the test with a 40%-50% would drop my grade. Because I want to at least pass the class. Not lower than a 65% as a final grade.

So if you have an 82 grade in the class with everything except the EOC (30%), then that 82 is really worth 70% of the final grade:

82×.70 + 40×.30 = 69.4

That's a huge drop, but it's still passing. Though don't underestimate any exam. Make an honest effort.

I'm often surprised at how far I can fail at something if I don't even give it a try. Best of luck!

you can think of the Final Grade in the course as being a weighted average between the grade up to this point and then the grade on the EOC. in this scenario that means taking

Final Grade = (82% * 70%) + (40% * 30%)

Final Grade = 57.4% + 12%

Final Grade = 69.4%

so the grade would drop 12.6 percentage points but would still be above the 65% required to pass
