The Greeks stopped the Persian invasion after the naval victory at Salamis.  However, Persia still occupied much of northern Greece, but not southern Greece.  It was in the land battle of Plataea sometime later that the Greeks decisively defeated the Persians, and the Persians withdrew.

Actually, it was what led to Xerxes and the majority of his forces retreating back into Persia; however, Xerxes left his brother, Mardonius, and about 100,000 soldiers to carry on the campaign.
