According to the Kinematic Equation of free fall, which is the case here, distance, d, can be calculated by
d = Vi*t + 1/2*a*t^2
where, Vi is the initial velocity
a is the acceleration, and
t is time
Vi = 0
a = g (gravity, which equals 9.8 m^-2)
t = 10 sec, so
d = 1/2*9.8*10^2
= 490 m (is the height of the cliff).
