corresponding temperatures in °F:

Temperature(°F) 69.7, 93.3, 84.3, 76.3, 88.6, 82.6, 71.6, 79.6

 

Construct a scatter plot, find the value of the linear correlation coefficient r, and find the

critical values of r from Table VI, Appendix A, p. A-14, of your textbook Elementary Statistics

I found two correlations as follows:

Y = 0.45 X² - 57.71 X + 2742.8 

r = 0.8944

Y = 14.60 X - 162.92

r = 0.8717

I prefer the first correlation because the correlation coefficient is a little higher.

 We may conclude that there is a correlation between the outside temperature and the number of chips per minute that a cricket emits.
