Let's get all terms with a y on left side and

other terms on the right side of equal sign.

 

1) subtract 6y from both sides

py - 6y + 7 = q

 

2) subtract 7 from both sides

py - 6y = q - 7

 

3) factor y out on left side

y(p-6) = q-7

 

4) divide both sides by p-6

 

y = (q-7)/(p-6)
