Passes through the point (5,6) and is parallel to the line represented by the equation 8x-7y=23

8x - 7y = 23

-7y = -8x + 23

y = (8/7)x - 23/7     The slope of this line is 8/7. Since parallel lines have the same slope, the slope of the new line would also be 8/7. Since you have a point and a slope, use the Point-Slope form of the equation of a line.

y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)

y - 6 = (8/7)(x - 5)

y - 6 = (8/7)x - 40/7

y = (8/7)x + 2/7
