multiply eq 2 with 4

4x -4y = 48

 

now add eq 1 and modifies eq 2

 

4x + 4y =4

4x -4y =48

subsitute value of x in eq 2

 

x -y = 12

6.5 -y =12

-y = 5.5

y=-5.5
