Linear Eqaution

Mrs. Quentin spent 4 nights at a hotel in Phoenix while attending wheelchair racing events. When she
left, the bill including tax, was $498.52. At that time, the hotel room tax in Phoenix was 13.3%. What
was the nightly rate for the room before tax?

How did you get 1.133?

Renee B.

1.133 is the tax added to the original cost.
100% is the cost of the room and 13% is the tax.
100% + 13.3% = 113.3% and turned into a decimal is 1.133.
So 1.133 times the original cost of the room will give the total for 4 nights plus tax
