Solve the systems of equations

4x+3y=-13

3x-5y=12

 

I have done this problem and cannot figure out what the answer is.

Try multiplying the top equation by -3, and the bottom equation by 4, and then add the 2 equations to eliminate x.  Solve for y, then plug y into either equation and solve for x.  You should get

 

x = -1

y = -3
