Hi Leah from Spark...hope you had a great day at school. Ooooo....percentages....everyone's favorite...Right?! Not!!!
Right up there with fractions. Anyway...it can sometimes be a challenge to answer these kinds of questions.
Okay...right off the bat...I'm not going to answer the problem for you, but I'm going to give you directions and hints to learn how to answer these kinds of problems.
Once you learn the technique on how to answer them, you will be a pro and you'll probably gonna be asked by other on how to answer them.
Okay...here's the first hint...let's start with what the problem is giving you. It says that the 6 quarts is 'PURE' antifreeze, which means its 100%.
The next part says the 14 quarts is a solution of 35% antifreeze...which means it is 35% antifreeze and the remainder is another liquid, let's say water...which is the remaining percentage. What would that be?
You have enough now to begin...of the 14 quarts of the solution, the remaining percentage is antifreeze. You can calculate that then find out what the rest of the question is asking of you.
Try and answer the problem...if you still need help....contact me on Wyzant...I can give you the answer, however by giving you the tools it will give you more confidence and skill to answer these and other problems involving fractions.
Don't forget...let me know if you need further help
