Chris has 36 miles remaining after 49 minutes of driving. How many miles will be remaining after
57 minutes of driving?

the decrease in miles remaining is 7/10 mile per minute.

so 8 more minutes of driving will decrease the remaining distance by 8(-0.7) miles, i.e. decrease is 5.6 miles.

thus the distance remaining is 36 - 5.6 or 30.4 miles.
