There is a formula that would work with vertex coordinates, but I don't recall it.

 

So you can calculate all the side lengths (a, b, c) and then you may use Heron's formula from trigonometry:

area = √[s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)[ where s = ½(a+b+c)
