My gas tank is 1/4 full after I add 10 gallons my gas tank is now 2/3 full how many gallons can my gas tank hold

I need help if anyone has anything to offer as far as help it'd be appreciated

full tank = x gallons

 

1/4 x  +  10  =  2/3 x

 

2/3 x  - 1/4 x  = 10

 

8/12 x  - 3/12 x  = 10

 

5/12 x  = 10

 

x = 24

 

Check:

 

24 X 1/4 = 6 gallons

 

6 gallons + 10 gallons = 16 gallons

 

16 gallons/24 gallons = 2/3 full      , correct

let Gas tank hold x gallon

 

(1/4)x + 10 =(2/3)x

 

10 = 2x/3-x/4

 

10=(8x-3x)/12

 

120 =5x

24 = x

So tank can hold 24 gallon
