w + y = 30

 

Equation 2, value of sweatshirts sold:

 

11.95 * w + 11.50 * y = 349.5

 

Solve by substitution:

 

w + y = 30

 

w = 30 - y

 

Substitute for w in equation 2:

 

11.95 * (30 - y) + 11.50 * y = 349.5

 

Clear parenthesis and combine terms:

 

.45y = 9

 

y = 20

 

20 yellow sweatshirts were sold.

 

30 - 20 = 10
