Solve for the variable

Question

(10 x 8) - g = 72

order of opperations: PEMDAS (parenthesis, exponents, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction) (I remember it as Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally) 

so start with your parenthesis (10x8) = 80 

now you have 80 - g = 72 

Subtract 80 from each side... so now you have

-g = 72-80 

-g = -8 

to get rid of the negatives you multiply each side by (-1) (you can do that because you are doing it to each side... it's like twins, if you give one candy you have to give the other candy too!) 

multiply by -1 on each side (negative X negative = positive) 

and you get 

g=8
