If it is a whole number, put it over 1. It is already reduced.
If it is a mixed number, change it to an improper. Then reduce.
Two ways to reduce the fraction:
(1) factor trees
(2) Euclid's Method
EX. 16/50
Factor Trees:
16 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 2 x 2 x 2
-------- = ---------------------- = -------------- so 8/25
50 2 x 5 x 5 5 x 5
Euclid's Method:
50 divided by 16 = 3 remainder 2
16 divided by 2= 8 remainder 0
The gcf greatest common factor of 50 and 16 is 2.
16/50 divided by 2/2 = 8/25
