Let x = the number of visits

 

For club #1, Cost = ($9)x + $81             [$9 per visit (x) plus $81 fixed fee]

 

For club #2, Cost = ($5)x + $113           [$5 per visit (x) plus $113 fixed fee]

 

We want to know the number of visits, x, that makes the cost of the two clubs equal.  So set the two cost equations equal and solve for x:

 

9x + 81 = 5x + 113

 

4x = 32

 

x = 8 visits
