If a PHYS152 student wants to measure a current running through a 10 Ω resistor connected to a 30V voltage source, which multimeter input should he/she use for the measurement?

Hint: Calculate the current in the circuit--the current you are trying to measure should not exceed the multimeter setting you are using.

Based on the given information, the measured current should be

 

I = E/R = (30 V)/(10 Ω) = 3 A

 

You should use an ammeter connected in series with the resistor.  Choose one that can take a 3 A current.  That is a large current.
