Perimeter = 2 x length + 2 x width

 

   P = 2L + 2w

 

 

BUT....

   L = 2w + 5 <--- the length is 5 inches more than twice the width

 

26 = 2*(2w +5) + 2w <--- the perimeter is 26

 

26  = 4w + 10 + 2w

 

26 = 6w + 10

 

16 = 6w

 

w = 16/6 = 8/3

 

L = 2(8/3) + 5 = 16/3 + 5 = 16/3 + 15/3 = 31/3

 

The perimeter is 2(31/3) + 2(8/3) = 62/3 + 16/3 = 78/3 = 26

 

The length is 31/3  = 10 and 1/3 = 10.3333..... = 10.3

 

The width is 8/3 = 2 and 2/3 = 2.6666.... = 2.6
