There are a number of children at a park. How many of each gender are at the park?

There are 340 children at a park.  2/5 of the boys is equal to 4/7 of the girls.  How many girls and how many boys are there at the park?

Suppose the number of boys = x

             the number of girls = y

Total number of children = 340 = x+y   ..... eq 1

2/5 x= 4/7 y

 2/5 *7/4 x=y

7/10 x= y

substituting value of y in eq 1,

 

x+7/10 x =340

17/10 x = 340

   x=340* 10/17 =200

y= 7/10 x=  7/10 * 200 =140

number of boys = 200, number of girls = 140
