What was the first Spanish colony in north america

Not counting the Caribbean, Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz (now Veracruz, Mexico) was the first Spanish town founded in mainland North America. Were the answer restricted to the current U.S. mainland, the answer would be St. Augustine, FL.
