Graph the function described. Mrs. Malone buys paint for $20 per gallon. The function f(x) gives the cost of buying x gallons of paint.

This is for discrete or continuous but I just need to know the linear equation. Thank you for helping me with this problem!

While you are most likely correct that x should
be a positive integer, the problem doesn't actually
state that she is unable to buy fractions of a gallon.
It is possible she could buy 3 1/2 gallons:
 
The linear equation is:
y = 20x, x≥0

My experience, perhaps limited, is that the price of a half gallon is the half the price of a gallon as far as paint is concerned.
