2x^2+3x+4=0 quadratic formula

I need to know the fourth step of solving this

x =(-b±√b2-4ac)/2a
x =(-3±√9-4(2)(4))/2(2)
x = (-3±√9-32)/4
x = (-3±√-23)/4
x = (-3±i√23)/4

After the √ symbol, there should be parentheses enclosing the entire 'discriminant'--since the vinculum part of today's square root symbol does not exist on the WyzAnt platform. This is strictly necessary because formulae can only be input here as strings of characters ON ONE LINE; there is no long division symbol either, which on a whiteboard or paper serves as a grouping symbol in cases where numerator and/or denominator are not single constants or variables.
