So the way to approach this is to make both equations in the y=mx + b format. 

 

Equation one you can switch to be y= 3x +10

Equation two you can make 2y= -4x -30, which can then be changed to y= -2x -15

y=y so -2x -15 = 3x +10. 

 

Make the numbers on one end and the x's on the other side. So -5x = 25. Therefore x=-5
