asked 08/23/17human-environment interaction describes how people harm the environment
1 Expert Answer
Human-environment interaction does not only describe the ways human society harms the environment, although that can be part of it. Human society has always interacted with the environment as the basis for survival and organization. Animals and other beings in the environment also interact with the wider environment in ways that both are part of normal ecosystem interaction and can cause what might be interpretted as harm. Human-environment interactions can also be beneficial for the environment, such as small controlled burns set by humans to clear excess potential fuelwood, which can reduce the impact of wildfires. Humans have also historically supported pollinator colonies through agricultural production, although the shift toward monocultures (single crops for an extended area) has been difficult for many pollinators that thrive among mixed plants. Sometimes abandoned urban plots overgrown with weeds have become great hubs for bee colonies. Human-environment interaction is not always harmful. It can be beneficial. And, very importantly, not all humans contribute to environmental harms equally.
