You are looking for the slope.  Slope= Rise/ Run

In this case, the elevation, or the rise, is 125.  We get this by subtracting the elevations: 590- 465 = 125.  The run is 9,700.

 

So, the slope, or rate of change, is (125 ft/ 9700 ft). The slope is            

0.0129 ft., this means that for every foot you walk, the elevation will increases on average 0.0129 ft.  So, for a hundred feet, the elevation will increase 1.29 ft.
