We have more bones in hand and wrist since we have developed a bipedal mode of locomotion and have used our forelimbs for advanced functions, the first of which was tool making evident in certain group of monkeys and bonobos.
As primates continued to use their forelimbs for variety of functions, adaptive radiation added to the force of evolution and smaller bones in wrist and hands were developed to support that adaptation to the environment adding to the fitness of human precursors and finally development of homo sapiens with fine hand movement and advanced brain!
Hope this will give you some scientific explanation of evolution.
